Softball Gears Up for Conference Play

Otero College Softball wraps up preseason in preparation for this year's region play under the leadership of second-year head coach Skye Koehl and assistant coach Ashley Johnson. As the Otero Rattlers prepared, they looked to build upon their team's strong performance last season in which they finished in second place for region 9 with a record of 16-8.

With a strong preseason schedule in February and early March, the Rattlers have seen some top ranked colleges such as Odessa, Temple, and Midland.

While the team has lost key players such as Region 9 defensive player of the year Gabby Rodriguez and sophomore teammates Sidney Larrew, Ana Medeiros, Dasia Halstead, Kayla Crocker, Faith Giebenrath, and Jaylyn Montoya to graduation, they still boast a strong roster with the return of athletes such as 1st team all-region pitcher Keira Gray and teammates Mariah Johnson, Whitney Boone and Kamryn Foster. Their experience, skill, and leadership will be crucial as the Rattlers aim to build upon their last year's achievements and put in the work in hopes to lead the region.

With an exciting series of matches lined up and a deep roster, the Rattlers look forward to a great conference season. First Region 9 Conference games start March 14th against Luna CC.
