OTERO COLLEGE WRESTLERS SULLIVAN DEHERRERA AND TYSON VASQUEZ SIGN WITH FOUR-YEAR INSTITUTIONS
LA JUNTA, CO — Otero College Athletics is proud to announce that two standout members of the Men's Wrestling program, Sullivan Deherrera and Tyson Vasquez, have officially committed to continue their academic and athletic careers at four-year universities.
Sullivan Deherrera, a sophomore competing at 165 pounds, has signed with Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. A native of Pueblo, Colorado, Deherrera's departure marks the culmination of a dedicated career at Otero, where his leadership on and off the mat helped set the standard for the Rattlers' program. He will bring experience, grit, and a strong work ethic to the Ravens' wrestling roster next season.
Tyson Vasquez, a freshman wrestling at 184 pounds, is making the leap to the NCAA Division II level after signing with New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Hailing from Edwards, Colorado, Vasquez made an immediate impact during his time with the Rattlers. His impressive physical presence and rapid growth on the mat caught the attention of the Cowboys' coaching staff, ensuring that Otero's wrestling tradition continues to be recognized at the next level.
"We're extremely proud of Sullivan and Tyson for earning the opportunity to continue their academic and athletic careers at the next level," said Head Men's Wrestling Coach Richard Razo. "Both student-athletes overcame challenges, stayed committed to their goals, and put in the work every day. At Otero, our mission is to develop Rattlers on and off the mat, and these two are a great example of that success."
"We are incredibly proud of both Sullivan and Tyson," said Otero College Athletic Director, Kyle Spencer. "Our primary goal at Otero is to provide student-athletes with the foundational tools, coaching, and academic support necessary to advance to the next stage of their lives. Seeing Sullivan move on to a fantastic four-year institution, and Tyson secure a spot at a DII program, is a testament to their hard work and the strength of our wrestling program."
The entire Otero College community congratulates Sullivan and Tyson on their achievements and wishes them the absolute best as they represent the Rattlers at Benedictine College and New Mexico Highlands University.
