Otero College Rattlers Clinch Thrilling Win Over Northwest College Trappers

In an exhilarating Regional soccer contest on September 12, 2025, the Otero College Rattlers secured a victorious outcome against the Northwest College Trappers at Otero's home pitch in La Junta, Colorado. The Rattlers turned the game around in the second half to win 2 to 1 after being down 0 to 1 at halftime.

The match began under sunny skies, setting the stage for a day of intense competition. The first half concluded with Northwest leading, courtesy of their offensive pressure which resulted in a 1-0 lead at the half. However, the resilience of the Rattlers was evident as they headed into the second half with amplified determination.

Otero's comeback was highlighted by goals from Lara Dorea and Elli Steel, with Steel scoring the decisive game-winning goal. Charlotte Klein, one of Otero's center backs stated, "the defensive efforts, which had been rigorously refined during training sessions this week, paid off significantly and allowed the team to showcase their hard work". This hard work gave Otero the decisive drive they needed to shut down multiple advances from the Trappers. Bethany Espinoza, Otero's Goalkeeper, played a crucial role, keeping the team in the contest with key saves throughout the match.

The hard work and tactical adjustments after their initial loss in Regional play were critical in clinching this win, according to the coach. The Rattlers' record now stands at 1-1 in Regional play and 1-3 in Conference play. Up next, Otero will face Central Wyoming College at their home field in La Junta, CO, on September 13, 2025.
